Setback and Siting Concerns

With awareness growing about the health impacts from the noise emitted from wind turbines, experts are recommending larger setbacks from residences.  These safe setbacks range from 1.5 – 2km, with new research pointing closer to the 2 km (1.24 mile) figure.

In SED’s feasibility plan, their recommended site for the proposed wind turbine is at North Hill (site #1).  According to their study, the closest residential building is .442km (1450ft) away and the North Hill Club House is .396km (1300 feet) from the proposed site.

  • There are 66 different streets that fall within a 1.24 mile radius of proposed site #1 (refer to slide on Home page).
  • There are a total of 877 homes that are within a 1.24 mile radius of proposed site #1.
  • The total 2012 assessed value of the homes that fall within a 1.24 mile radius of proposed site #1 exceeds 482 million dollars.
  • There are three schools Alden, Duxbury Middle and Duxbury High School that fall within a 1.24 mile radius of proposed site #1.
  • The Duxbury Performing Arts Center falls within a 1.24 mile radius of proposed site #1.
  • The Duxbury Student Union falls within a 1.24 mile radius of proposed site #1.
